Chipinge Correspondent—
CHIPINGE Rotary Club last Saturday embarked on a fundraising sponsored walk aimed at raising funds to help the needy in the community. The walk began from New Year’s Gift Turn-off to Chipinge Main Post Office which is 21km long.
Proceeds from the walk were aimed at buying orthopedic shoes for Zvikomborero Neshumba aged 14 who is enrolled at Matione Primary School in Chipinge.
Zvikomborero was assisted by the club before and his special shoes are now worn out.
The other aim of the event was to raise funds to fund the eradication of polio from around the globe which is the main goal of Rotary Foundation.
Chipinge chapter, Rotary Club president, Ms Tina Chirwa, said their organisation was engaging local companies to come on board and donate to the less privileged members of the society.
“This fundraising walk was aimed at raising money for Zvikomborero Neshumba an orthopaedic patient who is set to acquire his special shoes in Harare. Donations in cash or kind will be greatly appreciated for this noble cause.
“Our organisation has already engaged several companies, but we are still waiting for their response. The Rotary Club also has a role to play in eradicating polio in Zimbabwe and across Africa. We want to make sure that no one suffers from polio and we are happy that Zimbabwe is now a polio free country. Rotary International is a major financier towards the polio eradication programme,” said Ms Chirwa.
Ms Chirwa also urged Chipinge residents to join the organisation in its fundraising activities to help the community.
“We are calling the who is who of Chipinge to come and join the Rotary Club. There are many activities we undertake and we raise funds and plough back to the community while having fun. It is a stress free club, hence we need to register more members,” added Ms Chirwa.
The Rotary Club of Chipinge is a member of Rotary International which is a non-profit making organisation.
Their major objective is to serve humanity. It was revived in 2003 and currently has 16 active members.
