ZANU PF has reinstated Cde Robert Nyemudzo as its candidate for Chipinge South Constituency in a positive move that has boosted the ruling party’s chances of a landslide victory in the harmonised elections expected later this year.
Cde Nyemudzo bounced back in Chipinge South after being cleared of allegations of brewing illicit beer and drug peddling at Checheche Growth Point.
Sitting legislator, Cde Enock Porusingazi, had been endorsed as the party candidate following the allegations that had been levelled against Cde Nyemudzo.
Cde Nyemudzo was recently dragged to court for contravening the Harmful Liquids Act (Chapter 9:10), and was remanded to April 24.
He was represented by Mr Simon Simango of Nyikadzino and Simango Associates, and denied the allegations.
Following thorough investigations, his name has since been cleared of any wrongdoing.
Long-time legislator, Cde Porusingazi and Cde Nyemudzo recently contested in Zanu PF’s primary elections for a ticket to represent the party in Chipinge South and Cde Nyemudzo emerged the winner.
On Wednesday, Zanu PF national political commissar, Cde Mika Bhimha announced that the Politburo has endorsed the final list of candidates to represent the party in the upcoming harmonised elections.
Cde Bimha also announced Cde Nyemudzo’s reinstatement and said Cde Nyasha Marange will represent Zanu PF in Mutare West Constituency.
The seat is currently occupied by Cde Percy Muchimwe.
Initially, Cde Brighton Manhengureni had been declared the winner in that constituency.
Cde Nyemudzo refused to comment citing protocol, and referred The Manica Post to the party’s provincial leadership.
“I am very happy. Cde Porusingazi has pledged to work with me, and it is now a given, the party and the President will win resoundingly in Chipinge South because we are one.
“The party conducted its own investigations which cleared my name against those allegations, but protocol does not allow me to comment on that. Only the party’s provincial leadership can comment on those issues,” said Cde Nyemudzo.
Zanu PF provincial spokesman, Cde Samson Matema said the party has emerged from the internal processes more united and tolerant as they were meant to enhance internal democracy.
“Following investigations, representations and reviews of processes and outcomes with respect to the candidates’ selection in Chipinge South and Mutare West Constituencies, Cde Robert Nyemudzo and Cde Nyasha Marange were duly declared winners, respectively,” said Cde Matema.
Cde Matema said the outcome announced in the two constituencies have been widely accepted by contesting candidates and their supporters with the focus now on the upcoming harmonized elections.
He said all the candidates that took part in primary elections have pledged to work together.
“What is gratifying is the fact that all candidates in the aforesaid constituencies have pledged their support to the successful candidates and most importantly to the party, Zanu PF, under the able and visionary stewardship of the First Secretary and President, Cde ED Mnangagwa,” said Cde Matema.
