CHIPINGE Town Council has distributed food hampers worth thousands of dollars to 88 less-privileged members of the community that were sourced through its 2015 Chairman’s Christmas Cheer Fund. The beneficiaries of the Chairman’s Cheer Fund were drawn from Gaza high-density suburb, Simukai Outreach, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services and physically challenged members of the community.
The handover ceremony was done last Friday at Gaza Hall where prominent Chipinge educationalist, Reverend-Doctor Edward Matuvhunye was the guest of owner. The assortment of goods donated includes cooking oil, bags of flour, rice, sugar, bathing soaps, salt and maize-meal. Rev-Dr Matuvhunye expressed gratitude to all well-wishers who contributed towards the success of the event and encouraged the community to assist all those in needy.
“They are the less-privileged who did not enjoy the festive season due to poverty, but I am happy that there are Good Samaritans who bailed them out through the Chairman’s Christmas Cheer Fund.
“Scriptures read that those who give the poor will be rewarded and let us take this message and help those in needy today.
“I want to thank council, business community, Government departments and well-wishers who donated towards this noble gesture,” said Rev-Dr Matuvhunye.
Chipinge Town Council chairperson, Clr Ziyengwa Huni, said: “It is our duty to help those in needy and it is also part of ploughing back to the community where some of the money comes from. I therefore thank all those who were able to dig deep into their pockets to assist the needy.” said Clr Huni.
The donations were sourced from Clearwater Estates, Ok Zimbabwe, Metro Peech, Coca-Cola, Christmas Pass Hotel, United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ), Musiwenyu, Real Fashions, Major Family Savings Group, RANA Brother and Dairiboard Zimbabwe Limited among other well-wishers.
