VILLAGERS of Hakwata in Chipinge have hailed the Government for initiating the biogas digester project that has improved their living conditions.
This comes as more than 90 households had biogas digesters installed at their homesteads under the Climate Adaptation, Water and Energy Programme (CAWEP) project.
Undertaken by the Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the three-year project is being implemented by the Foreign Commonwealth Development Organisation (FCDO) to support Zimbabwe in attaining its climate change goals.
Mr Mlambo, a beneficiary, said they are happy with the biogas digesters.
“We thank the Government for the biogas digesters, cooking is now much easier for us. We used to have challenges as trees were being chopped wantonly.”
Mrs Jane Dhini echoed the same sentiments and said she no longer has to worry about firewood.
“The biogas digesters have gone a long way in improving our living conditions and we hope that the project will spread across the whole village,” she said.
The project is supporting vulnerable communities’ adaptation and resilience to climate shocks through an investment of US$16 million.
It is being implemented in Chipinge District (Hakwata); Chivi District (Gororo); Insiza District (Wanezi) and Binga District (Mlibizi).
