A CHIPINGE woman has alleged she was raped by suspected members of the ruling Zanu-PF party, claiming she was attacked for attending a Citizens for Coalition Change (CCC) rally.
Of late there has been an increase of political related crimes in the country with the police castigating the move.
Mejury Kuchena is said to have attended a CCC rally in Mutare, where she had travelled with her ward councillor.
According to sources close to the incident, it is reported that after returning from the rally she went to her house where she was then attacked by unknown elements who she claimed told her they were members of the ruling party.
Her husband, Tafara Lewis Chawira and son were reportedly visiting her mother in law when the attack occurred.
“She told us that the assailants stormed the house, accusing her of being a member of the opposition and also questioning why she had attended the rally. It was at this point that she was beaten and allegedly raped by the assailants.
“We also understand that the took all CCC materials, burning it, inclusive of party regalia and campaign leaflets,” said the source who declined to be named.
Police sources confirmed that they had received a report from Kuchena on the alleged rape but claimed that she had failed to give them adequate evidence.
“Yes we are investigating a case of rape but the complainant in the case failed to supply us with adequate information like getting medically tested, we requested that she goes to the hospital but that was the last we heard from her,” said the police source.
Kuchena’s acquaintances revealed that she had since gone into hiding after she reported to have met one of her attackers on the streets.
“The event really traumatized her especially when she says she met one of her attackers in town but no action has been taken to bring them to book,” said the source.
