Chiragwi rules the roost

NGEZI Platinum Stars coach Takesure Chiragwi has proved himself the best of the crop in the early stages of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after he was crowned the league’s best gaffer for April and May.

The youthful coach’s stock continues to rise, with the former CAPS United fullback aiming to lead the Mhondoro team to the league title for the first time since their promotion in 2016.

Chiragwi had a slow start to the current season posting two draws in March against Bulawayo Chiefs and CAPS United.

But three wins and two draws in April, which earned him 11 points from a possible 15, propelled his side to the top spot and he was deservedly picked as the best by the selection panel for that month.

Then, three wins, including a 2-0 win over champions FC Platinum and a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against giants Dynamos, ensured pole position for Chiragwi as well in May.

“I appreciate it so much and I thank God but credit goes to the entire Ngezi Platinum Stars family for working together as a team,” said Chiragwi.

“It also motivates us to keep on working hard, it’s not easy with the stiff competition amongst 18 quality managers in the league and being selected the winner for consecutive months.

“But all the same the journey is still rolling, a lot of work has to be done. It is also good to be appreciated and recognised amongst the best we thank God”.

Ngezi Platinum Stars are currently sitting at the top of the table with 23 points from 12 outings, as the Castle Lager Premiership is currently on suspension following the stadium crisis that was worsened by the maintenance works at the National Sports Stadium, which hosted eight teams.

The National Sports Stadium hosted an average four games every week since the start of the season. The Premier Soccer League decided to stop the fixtures last week after they were advised to cut down the number of games to at least two per week, in an empty stadium, to allow the contractors to speed up the maintenance works. The matches are expected to resume on July 1.
