TAKESURE Chiragwi praised his men after champions Ngezi edged a battling Chegutu Pirates in a Mashonaland West Derby showdown at Baobab yesterday.
The champions went ahead in the 34th minute through a strike by Talent Chamboko.
Takunda Benhura doubled the lead in the 50th minute. Zaire pulled one back in the 64 minute through a wonder strike by Cleopas Dube who scored with an acrobatic overhead kick.
“Today, these guy they did very well. To be honest, from the onset, they really wanted to win,” said Chiragwi.
“In terms of ball possession, we had more. That is the reason why we managed to get those goals. We could have won probably by four or five goals. We had so many advantages and clear opportunities to finish them off, especially in the first half.
“Two one for us, I think we are happy. What is important for us is to get that win so that we bring the confidence back to the players.”
He added:
“You know, if you keep on plying well and not getting the desired result. it’s very difficult for the players, they start to lose confidence.
“They are now playing very freely, which is important for the players.”
Pirates assistant coach, Godfrey Tamirepi, said his team tried their best,
“When you look at our guys, we had a slow start to the game and that goal, which we actually couldn’t defend, was not good for us.
“The ball was played diagonally and we were too slow to shift to close down the guy who took a shot at goal.
“Our biggest problem was defending and in the early stages of the game, our marking in midfield, was so terrible.
“But, in the second half, we came ba ck strongly and it was just unfortunate that we couldn’t actually get an equaliser.”
