A Chiredzi man has been fined US$200 for hindering police officers from arresting a suspect.

He will spend 90 days in prison if he fails to pay the fine. Tinashe Matinyarare (37) appeared before the Chiredzi Magistrates’

Court facing charges of obstruction of justice.

He was sentenced to four months in prison, which was wholly suspended. Allegations are that on July 17, 2024, Matinyarare

approached police detectives in Molly Street in Chiredzi. The detectives had arrested Kudzai Kondo in connection with a series

of unlawful entry and theft cases.

He allegedly pushed an on-duty police officer who was in the process of handcuffing Kondo, who managed to escape and the

police officers arrested Matinyarare for obstruction.
