Chiredzi water woes mount

Tawanda Mangoma in Chiredzi
Residents here have challenged the local authority to urgently upgrade the water reticulation system to address the town’s perennial water woes. Chiredzi Residents and Rate Payers Association chairman Mr Jonathan Muusha said they are worried with the city fathers’ slow progress in attending to the water challenges.

“The water situation is worsening especially in Tshovani. In some instances children are being forced to look for water before they go to school, just because their schools cannot operate without water,” he said.

The chairman said it was important for authorities at Chiredzi Town Council to improve on service delivery.
He said the local authority should upgrade its water reticulation system without fail, in line with their recent pronouncement that they had secured money for that purpose.

Mr Muusha said residents were increasingly becoming impatient with the local authority’s lackadaisical approach to the worsening water crisis.

“The engineers must go on ground and come up with long lasting solutions to this water crisis.
“The situation has worsened even further as result of persistent power outages in the last fortnight,” said Mr Muusha.
Chiredzi Town Engineer Wesley Kauma said so far they (council) had purchased all material to upgrade the water reticulation system.
