THE chairman of the Mbada Diamond Cup organising committee, Tafadzwa Chiremba, says they are looking forward to an exciting Cup Final this afternoon when How Mine date Highlanders at Barbourfields. He said they were impressed with the buzz about the match in the city.“Preparations have gone on well and we are happy with the support we have found on the ground here. We look forward to a great afternoon in our pursuance of football excellence.
“We hope by harnessing diamonds for the nation, we can help develop soccer and have many live their dreams in the sport.
“Soccer brings people together and we hope to see a packed Barbourfields all out to watch soccer, a beautiful Cup Final pitting the city clubs.
“It is exciting to note that we have brought the first major Cup Final pitting local teams since 1988. We have been told it could be the first time that city clubs clash in an FA Cup final in Bulawayo in the history of the game,” said Chiremba.
He challenged fans to come in their numbers to celebrate Bulawayo football on an afternoon where a good entertainment programme has been lined up.
“The respective teams’ juniors will curtain raise and Ndolwane Super Sounds will also perform at the stadium in what promises to be a memorable day,’ said Chiremba.
The last major Cup Final pitting city clubs was in 1988 when Highlanders beat Zimbabwe Saints 1-0 in the Rothmans Shield.
“We are happy to be part of Zimbabwe soccer history,” said Chiremba.
The Premier Soccer League board member responsible for competitions Tawengwa Hara praised Chiremba for the diligent manner in which he has run this year’s tournament.
