Manica Diamonds defender Tawanda Chisi believes a strong finish to the 2023 Castle Lager Premiership campaign will set a good foundation for next season as they seek the league title.
The Mutare-based Manica Diamonds are currently in second position, two points ahead of Dynamos and FC Platinum while trailing Ngezi Platinum by seven points with three matches to go.
Like everyone else, Chisi believes this year’s title is headed for Mhondoro and they are already plotting for next season.
“We wanted the title but as it stands it’s all favouring Ngezi Platinum. They have done enough to be where they are although I am wishing that it was us. But you know everything is worked for.
“We are trying to finish this season strong and make sure that we secure second position.
“For the club, it will go a long way as you know the club is still growing, and considering that it’s a very big step and foundation for future success stories to come.
“Our squad is a decent one and I think if we can use Sakubva next season that will be a major boost. We travelled a lot as we were using Gibbo as our home stadium.
“But we hope that with time everything will become better and nice.
“I am grateful to all the fans, who stood by the team throughout this journey. It’s not an easy thing to have a group of people rallying behind you through thick and thin.
“My teammates have been awesome and we have encouraged each other to carry on through difficult times and I pray the spirit of unity will remain in the camp for the team to keep on improving.
“This season has brought a number of lessons which we are taking home,” he said.
