CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe, who has already been given the seal of approval by the club’s leadership to remain in charge next season, says he is already looking beyond this season and planning for a fresh campaign.
Last week, the club’s president Farai Jere, revealed that Chitembwe was set to continue as the Green Machine head coach next season.
And yesterday Chitembwe, speaking at the club’s weekly Press briefing, said the future was bright for the team.
He singled out midfielders Joel Ngodzo and Dominic Mukandi as part of the quality material he will build his team around next season.
“For me the priority is to improve the quality of the team and I am happy with the performance so far although we can do a lot more,” said Chitembwe.
“CAPS United have a lot of capabilities, even of being the champions, and we have missed the target but as far as I am concerned the future is brighter than what we went through this season.
“When I look at the quality of players like Josta and Dominic they have the right ingredients to achieve what we want and I just hope they keep performing the way they are performing.
“The biggest achievement for us, as the technical team, is to maintain what they have been doing.”
The former CAPS United midfielder said they have moved on from the defeat against ZPC Kariba, in their last league match and they were looking forward to the match against Triangle at the National Super Sports on Sunday.
“In Kariba, it was one match that I experienced different emotions, the sad ones and the happy ones.” said Chitembwe.
“The sad ones being, obviously, the result, it was a very disappointing result, and the happy ones being the application by the team and what we managed to get from the team. “The positives we managed to get from the game far outweigh the negatives.”
Chitembwe believes the club today is forging on a united front with the leadership, the team and the fans pulling in one direction.
“It is a serene environment, there is so much unity of purpose within the whole system, players united than ever before and even if you look at the supporters,” said Chitembwe. “The future looks very good and I am sure this is a step in the right direction going into the next season.
“I am sure we will be having a good season “We will try and work on the strengths of the team. And I am happy of late we are getting what we want.”
CAPS United striker, Antonio Fugo, said they were looking forward to the game against Triangle.
“We are focused on Triangle. What happened in Kariba is gone and we will try and improve on Sunday,” he said.
The Equatorial Guinea player, who is technically good some analysts believe he could be headed for Europe soon, said the team has now struck the right chords and life has been smooth.
