More than 10 renowned poets and musicians are set to converge at Queensdale Sports Club tomorrow for performances to commemorate the life of celebrated fallen author, Chenjerai Hove.
Chenjerai’s widow, Tecla, will be guest of honour at the event.
An array of entertainment has been set for the big day with performances from Jabulani “Jay-Boss” Hove, Albert Nyathi, Hope Masike, Chirikure Chirikure, Shimmer Chinodya, Memory Chirere, David Mungoshi, TendaiMaduwa, Jairos Chabvonga and Ticha Muzavazi among others.
In a statement, Hove family through their spokesperson Ray Mawerera said they were very grateful to the late author’s friends for coming up with the idea to commemorate his life.
“We are grateful to Chenjerai Hove’s friends who have decided to hold a commemoration in honour of his works on Saturday, October 31 2015.
“This artistic event will be held at the Queensdale Sports Club and the commemoration will be in the form of readings and performances from various artists in genres as widely spread as from poetry and prose to music, comedy and a slide show,” read the statement.
“Artists who have confirmed their participation include poet laureate Albert Nyathi, personal family friend and renowned poet Chirikure Chirikure who has been leading the event preparations, actors, and writers from the Zimbabwe Writers’ Association, as well as arts journalists.”
There will be a mix of music like mbira, chimurenga and afro-jazz.
