GUNNERS president Cuthbert Chitima has dismissed reports that they have tabled on offer to purchase newly promoted Premiership side Tsholotsho and maintained that they would fight to win their elevation to the top-flight from the World Navi Northern Region Division One League this year.
The 2009 Premiership champions finished second in the Northern Region behind prisons outfit Flame Lily.
Although they had earlier in the season said they were building a team for this year, Gunners later declared their interest to win the championship hoping to return to the top-flight league but they missed out on the promotion in a tightly contested race that had to be decided on the last day of the season.
Gunners, with 73 points, ended the season three behind Flame Lily who had 76 points.
There has been growing speculation that Gunners were eyeing a return to the Premiership via the boardroom with Chando Kupisa being linked with the Tsholotsho franchise.
However, Chitima said they have not made any move on Tsholotsho but noted that if the newly promoted side is selling their franchise they would consider the opportunity.
“I don’t know anything about Tsholotsho. If it’s being sold and we get the chance we will buy it. If the chance comes, yes, we are ready and we do have the resources but at the moment we haven’t spoken anything official with those guys,” said Chitima.
Chitima said for this year’s campaign they would want to win the championship considering their performance last season.
“The truth of the matter is we would want to win promotion into the Premiership, that’s our aim to compete and win the championship,” said Chitima.
Gunners blew the opportunity to earn promotion last season when they surrendered their pole position with just a few games to go.
They also missed out on the inaugural Yadah TV Knockout tournament when they were booted out in the semi-finals by Mushowani Stars.
