CHITOWN’S WATER WOES WORSEN

WATER shortages in Chitungwiza have worsened since the decommissioning of Prince Edward Water treatment plant in August.

Chitungwiza Mayor, Rosaria Mangoma, said residents should brace for acute water shortages as the Council was not receiving enough water to service the whole town.

“The development was caused by the drying up of twin dams, Harava and Seke Dam, which feed the treatment plant,” Mayor Mangoma said.

“Since the decommissioning, the Council has been receiving between 1 megalitre and 3 megalitres between Saturdays and Sundays from Morton Jaffary.

“The supply is far below the demand of at least 75 megalitres per day and we are failing to distribute it to all residents when we receive it.”

Mayor Mangoma said they were in the process of engaging the Government for a possible intervention.

“The Council is also maintaining community boreholes for residents to source water and we encourage residents to draw water from safe and trusted sources,” she said.

“Meanwhile, we are appealing to well-wishers to come on board to assist us.

“You may please contact the Acting Town Clerk.

“The Council regrets that the residents might be finding themselves in difficult situations due to the water crisis.”
