Chitungwiza residents want the local authority to avail a weekly water rationing schedule following a provisional order granted by the High Court for the municipality to provide water during the lockdown period.
Water supplies have improved slightly following the court order, but residents in some areas are complaining of uneven distribution and they think a weekly timetable would make it easy for them to track the distribution pattern.
Chitungwiza, which gets its supplies from Harare City Council, reportedly owes the latter at least $18 million and is receiving between 10 megalitres to 15 megalitres on selected days.
In an interview, Chitungwiza Residents’ Trust director Ms Diana Kuvheya said a water supply timetable was necessary in tracking the court order compliance.
“As residents we should have a timetable that is reliable . . . As Chitrest, we just won the court case and we are on the ground monitoring if the court order is being implemented. We want it (timetable) as soon as possible,” she said.
Chitrest sued Chitungwiza Municipality, Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Ministry of Health and Child Care and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
