The tiff between Chitungwiza Municipality and Revelations auctioneers over storage fees has been resolved after the local authority was asked to collect its property.
Council got a reprieve after President Mugabe evoked Presidential Powers (Temporary Measures) to stop the auctioning of property after it was attached by Nissam Investments and Metbank over a debt of more than $4 million. Chitungwiza managed to retrieve some of its property from KM Auctioneers, while Revelations Auctioneers refused to release it, demanding storage fees upfront.
Revelations then sent two conflicting invoices on the fees to Chitungwiza Municipality and this riled council and prompted it to request a breakdown of the amounts. The auctioneers later sent another invoice with a revised amount of $36 599, 65 down from $65 599, 65 through the Sheriff of the High Court. Chitungwiza Municipality acting town clerk, Ms Charity Maunga, said that they were asked to come and collect their property.
“We received a call yesterday (Monday) from Revelations auctioneers advising us to come and get our remaining property. KM auctioneers had already given us everything and we were waiting for Revelations to release the other property after they asked us to pay storage fees which we have not yet agreed to. Our team is going to collect it. The property comprises mainly our service delivery equipment, tanks, workshop trolleys, welding machines, compressors. Nissam had attached workshop equipment. This had affected service delivery because everything was taken,” said Ms Maunga.
