Chitungwiza gets farm for burials

Town clerk Mr Godfrey Tanyanyiwa confirmed on Monday that Harare Metropolitan Governor and Resident Minister David Karimanzira, working with Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Amos Midzi, arranged the deal.
Council had made representations to Governor Karimanzira’s office requesting for burial land.
“Governor Karimanzira was here last week and he told us that Government had given us Tantalion Farm for burial space after we had closed the Unit L cemetery,” he said.
The farm is in Mashonaland East Province.
“He will sort out the issue of boundaries with his Mashonaland East counterpart. All we know is our Government has given us land for a cemetery,” he said.
The farm is 10km away from the existing cemetery and is situated across Nyatsime River.
“We are in the process of rehabilitating an access bridge to the farm. The access bridge has not been used in a long time.
“We have also instructed the director of town planning Mr Conrad Muchesa to demarcate enough land for burial looking ahead to the future,” he said.
Chitungwiza, with more than two million people, has sold 15 500 residential stands in Nyatsime and might have to develop another cemetery to meet growing demand.
