Chitungwiza Hospital completes mortuary expansion

Malaria media tour on Monday, the hospital’s chief executive officer, Dr Obadiah Moyo, said until the expansion the mortuary accommodated only 30 bodies.

“The new mortuary is a transformation of an old model of mortuary to a state-of-the-art facility with modern chillers,” Dr Moyo said.
He said part of the money used to expand the mortuary was availed by Government under the Public Sector Investment Programme initiative.
The mortuary has been closed for the past three months and bodies were being kept at Doves Funeral Parlour.

The hospital has renovated the maternity ward, the reception area, laboratory, dental and eye clinic.
The dental clinic has a new dental chair with all accessories.

“With the old dental chair, you could not see what the dentist was doing on the chair, but with the new chair you can actually see what the dentist is doing on your teeth through a screen,” said Dr Moyo.

The hospital, which was opened in 1984 to cater for residents of the satellite town and surrounding areas, now admits patients from Harare, Beatrice, Mahusekwa and as far as Chihota, Marondera and Mutoko.
This was after it was upgraded to a referral hospital.
