Chitungwiza hosts Arts Festival

Chitungwiza is expected to host the 15th edition of the Arts Festival in Seke’s Unit L under the theme “Celebrating Life -15 Years of Empowerment, Our Youths our Future Will” on September 21 to 22 . The programme’s administrative assistant, Mitchell Chitsimbe, said the two-day festival will be eventful with various competitions in art disciplines.

“The festival is open to all youths aged between 18 and 25 from Chitungwiza and surrounding areas. There is a lot look forward to with competitions in drama, poetry, music and dance.

“Our goal is to nurture talent and offer a platform for these youngsters to perform at a professional level,” she said.

Workshops will also be held on the sidelines of the festival with participants being awarded an opportunity to interact with professionals in their respective fields.

“We have experts in different artistic fields that are expected to impart their knowledge to the youths.

“Lloyd Nyikadzino from the International Theatre Institute will be conducting the drama workshops while members of a professional dance group, Soukaina, will work with the dancers. We also have Nyasha Chirau, a representative from Music Crossroads, who will be facilitating the music workshops,” added Chitsimbe.

Renowned gospel musician Sabastian Magacha of the “Bosvo” fame together with the Jibilika Dance Group are expected to provide entertainment during the festival.

Upcoming players in the entertainment industry in the form of Chitungwiza-based Lady Banks, Critical, DJ Kevi, Blavamce will also grace the entertainment scene.

Although Chitsimbe could not be drawn to reveal the prizes at stake, she said participants can expect great rewards for their efforts.

She added that in previous years, cash prizes have been given to outstanding performers.
