Urban planning in arguably Zimbabwe’s fastest growing human settlement has been chaotic with people having been allocated stands on unsuitable land.
Government officials and residents raised concerns over the sad state of affairs but no action was taken as beneficiaries continued building their houses.
Zengeza 4 and Unit H residents vehemently resisted the construction of houses on open spaces in the two areas accusing council of destroying their children’s play centres.
The two playgrounds were also reserved for future development of schools.
Recently appointed director of urban planning Mr Conrad Muchesa confirmed the relocation of the residents.
“So far 225 people have been allocated new stands in Units G, L, N and in Manyame Park,” he said.
One hundred residential stands had been created on the Zengeza 4 soccer fields while 60 were allocated on the Unit H playgrounds.
Mr Muchesa said there was another category where people were allocated non-existent residential stands.
