Chitungwiza Progressive Residents Association (CHIPRA) has given Chitungwiza Town Council a seven- day ultimatum to release the salary for all directors and management.
The association’s director, Mr Admire Zaya, said the move has been necessitated by the recent shocking revelations of top executives and senior management in parastatals, quasi-government institutions and local authorities who were awarding themselves hefty salaries, huge perks and benefits at the expense of workers and residents.
“CHIPRA stands in solidarity with its people in their fight against organised looting and abuse of council funds,” read part of the statement.
“Our association demands the council to avail the salary schedule of top council managers.
“Chitungwiza Town Council has been fraught with alarming levels of fraud, abuse of council funds, shoddy land deals involving former councillors, parliamentarians, town council officials and Government ministers.
“CHIPRA wants to know whether or not resident’s money was looted in the form of obscene salaries and allowances by appointed commissioners and senior management.”
The association also demanded that the council provide it with a salary/service delivery ratio.
Meanwhile, Mr Zaya said CHIPRA had managed to get a High Court moratorium on house demolitions until February 27.
The order comes in the wake of a resumption in the demolition of illegal structures earlier this week after residents had repeatedly blocked the demolitions.
