FORMER Zimbabwe Sables coach, Brighton Chivandire has been appointed director of rugby at Christian Brothers College, in a move that is expected to turn around the fortunes of the Bulawayo school in the sport.
CBC, in announcing the appointment said Chivandire, who assumed his duties last Tuesday is also responsible for the development of sport at the private school.
“The College is pleased to announce the appointment of Bright Chivandire to the staff, as Director of Rugby, with immediate effect. While Chivandire’s main focus will be on rugby, he will also oversee the development of sport in general at the College.
He is an experienced sportsman and coach with a wealth of experience,’’ CBC said in a statement.
Chivandire played a part in preparing the Hornets for yesterday’s away fixture against the Falcon College Mad Dogs in Esigodini. Before taking on Falcon College, who beat them at home in May, CBC had not won a match, with losses to Milton, Petra and Prince Edward.
In addition to playing for the Sables from 1992-2002, Chivandire, a World Rugby level three coach has been Sables manager, served as Zimbabwe Rugby Union director of rugby, Zimbabwe Under-20 head coach, and Under-19 assistant coach. He has over the years earned a reputation as a schoolboy rugby coach and before joining CBC, he has been working at St George’s College and Prince Edward School in Harare.
Chivandire has previously lived in Bulawayo from 1989 to 1997.
