Nac raises alarm over child prostitution

THE National Aids Council (Nac) has raised concern over increasing cases of child prostitution in Chiredzi, Chivi and Zaka, which are scuttling efforts to combat HIV and Aids in Masvingo Province.

Nac provincial co-ordinator Mr Edgar Muzulu said from the survey the council has carried out, it was discovered that there was a lot of prostitution involving under-age girls at a number of night spots in the province.

He also said the incidents of sexually transmitted infections was worrying in the same areas and the council had come up with programmes on behavioural change and safe sex targeting commercial sex workers and young girls.

“We have done some researches, as Nac and discovered that there is rampant child prostitution at a number of night spots in Masvingo. The most affected areas are Mandamabwe in Chivi, Jerera Growth Point, Chigarapasi beerhall in Chiredzi, Lundi Business Centre and Ngundu Growth point along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway,” said Mr Muzulu.
