CHIVARAIDZE Primary School has once again positioned its learners at the forefront of Zimbabwe’s artistic evolution, this time through a powerful collaboration with gospel sensation Jonah Chivasa on their patriotic new single, “Komborerai Zimbabwe”.
The emotionally charged track, performed by Chivasa together with the school’s 50-member choir, blends the purity of children’s voices with a message of hope, unity and prayer for national prosperity.
It is a song that not only celebrates Zimbabwe, but affirms the belief that the future of the nation rests in the hands of its youngest citizens.
The school has intentionally been building a strong arts culture, recognising the value of music as a transformative force in the lives of children.
Head of School Mrs Prisca Mtizwa says the music programme has grown into one of the institution’s strongest pillars.
“Our programme is thriving,” she says. “It is designed to promote cultural awareness, creativity, confidence, self-expression and teamwork.” She adds that while not every child may excel academically, music provides an alternative platform where learners can discover their strengths and shine.
Chivaraidze Primary School choir, began its professional music journey in 2024 when the school teamed up with top gospel musician Sabastian Magacha for their debut single, “Mudziyo”.
The song carried a powerful spiritual message meant to build character. “It reminded learners that they are vessels of God,” Mrs Mtizwa explains.
The success of Mudziyo set a firm foundation, inspiring the school to pursue more ambitious collaborations.
Their latest project, ‘Komborerai Zimbabwe’, builds on that momentum and carries a national message.
Mrs Mtizwa says the 2025 theme for the school is centred on patriotism.
“We want to inculcate love of their country so that they grow to be responsible citizens,” she says. She believes collaborations with well-established artistes boost children’s confidence, sharpen their discipline and broaden their understanding of the world outside school.
Chivaraidze Primary School choir, plans to continue releasing at least one single every year featuring a different musician and a unique theme.
“Catch them young,” she emphasises, noting that early exposure to talent development can change a child’s entire future.
For Jonah Chivasa, this collaboration was not simply another musical project, it was a calling.
He describes the message behind the song as a deliberate act of speaking life into the nation.
“The verse is every Zimbabwean making positive affirmations, while the chorus is a prayer asking God to bless our nation with peace, unity and prosperity,” he explains.
He says the innocence of children inspired the song writing process.
“The child represents the future of Zimbabwe in God’s hands,” he adds.
Working with the Chivaraidze learners left a deep impression on the celebrated musician.
“The experience was divine,” Chivasa says.
“I was swept off my feet by the talent and artistic discipline of the children.” As a father himself, he has long hoped to work with young voices and believes that including children in gospel music is crucial for the industry’s longevity.
“I’m glad children are finding a place on the gospel scene. It assures everyone of a bright future for the industry.”
He even encourages the school to be more ambitious. “Chivaraidze Primary School should go on to produce an album. With two singles now, they have already proven themselves.”
The single took less than a month to record and shoot, guided by the school’s dedicated music director, Mr Mazhandu, whom Mrs Mtizwa credits for shaping the choir into a confident, disciplined ensemble capable of working at professional levels.
While the choir currently performs mainly at school events, Mrs Mtizwa says the growing exposure will soon see them gracing platforms beyond their gates.
With national attention now beginning to shift their way, their next phase could include concerts, festivals and major national events.
As the voices of Chivaraidze Primary School rise through Komborerai Zimbabwe, one message stands clear: these children are not just singing about the future, they are the future. Through music, they are learning to love their country, express their gifts, and model the leadership Zimbabwe will one day rely on.
