Chivayo arrest claims dispelled

Herald Reporter

Police have disowned press statement circulating on social media claiming businessman Mr Wicknell Munodaani Chivayo is wanted for questioning over alleged fraud.

In a strongly worded warning, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the so-called “ZRP press statement”, which carried the national police logo and a forged signature of his, is completely bogus.

“Reference is made to a fake press statement that has gone viral on social media platforms. The press statement did not originate from the official ZRP communication channels.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard it as false and misleading.

“The ZRP is aware of individuals and groups responsible for circulating the fake press statement and appropriate investigations are underway.”

The message, dated November 1, 2025, falsely claims that the police “is looking for Wicknell Munodaani Chivayo in connection with a fraud investigation and related criminal activities”.

Comm Nyathi warned citizens not to fall for such misleading social media antics and to always verify official communication through trusted channels.
