Chivi school closed

The parents, led by the local chief, descended on the school demanding the ouster of three teachers.
Chief Gororo last Thursday led villagers to the school demanding the immediate transfer of the teachers accusing them of dereliction of duty.
Education, Sport, Arts and Culture officials were forced to close the school and transfer the teachers after the chaos.
The villagers threatened to assault the teachers they accused of conducting their personal business during teaching hours.
Efforts by Chivi district education officer, Mr Simbarashe Dzoroto, to mediate between the warring parties did not yield results.
The villagers reportedly threatened to assault him and he sought protection from the police.
Chief Gororo allegedly seized keys to the school gate only to return them on Tuesday this week.
Masvingo provincial education director, Ms Clara Dube, said the situation was back to normal after the teachers agreed to be transferred from the school.
“We have since fulfilled their wish by immediately transferring the teachers to other schools in Zaka and Chivi.
“It is really not clear why the parents were baying for the three teachers’ blood but preliminary reports indicate that the parents were accusing them of conducting their personal business during working hours and this sparked the dispute between them.”
She, however, appealed for peace between the teachers and parents at schools in the province.
Ms Dube said her officers will soon embark on a programme to promote good relations between parents and teachers.
