CHIVI Rural District Council has established a foundation named after the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for Masvingo, Cde Shuvai Mahofa in recognition of her efforts in helping school children with fees. Chivi RDC chairman Cde Killer Zivhu told The Chronicle that the local authority saw it fit to launch a foundation from which disadvantaged but academically gifted children in schools in Chivi district will benefit.
He said the foundation will address Cde Mahofa’s wish to help the girl child in the district so that they achieve their dreams regardless of the circumstances of their lives.
He said he would, under the guidance of Cde Mahofa and his council, mobilise resources for the foundation to benefit many children.
Last week, Cde Mahofa donated $900 towards school fees for some disadvantaged female pupils at Chidyamakono Secondary School.
She also donated $250 to the school’s netball team.
“On behalf of Chivi RDC, I’ve thought of complementing our Minister of State for Provincial Affairs’ efforts towards addressing the plight of underprivileged female students in my district. We’ve launched the Shuvai Mahofa Foundation set to assist schoolchildren from poor families with school fees and uniforms,” said Cde Zivhu.
“This may not be a new concept here but now it has more value as it’s named after Senator Mahofa, a senior minister in the province.
“The idea is to have more children getting assisted and be able to live their dreams. I’m convinced that our aim of assisting all children to access education will be fulfilled.”
