THE World Boxing Council interim super-bantamweight champion Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire will digest the postponement of her much-anticipated bout against Mexican challenger Zulina Munoz while watching the South African DStv Premiership Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns this afternoon.
The South African football giants meet in match-day three of the top-flight in Pretoria.
And Chiwandire, who is apparently taken aback with the postponement of her fight, will be relaxing, watching proceedings live from the stadium.
She is currently in South Africa together with her trainer/manager Clyde Musonda for a 10-day training camp.
And the two have been helped to VVIP tickets by Zororo Phumulani which is powered by Doves Zimbabwe.
The fight between Chiwandire and Munoz was originally scheduled for August 27 but yesterday the promoters, Delta Force, revealed that the bout has been shelved.
It will now take place on October 1 at the Harare International Conference Centre.
This will be the first time a WBC-sanctioned fight will be staged in Zimbabwe.
“Delta Force Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Academy regrets to announce the postponement of the much anticipated WBC interim super bantamweight title defence fight dubbed “Fire in the Hole” which was scheduled for 27 August to 1 October 2022,” wrote the promoters.
“The postponement of the title fight between Kudakwashe ‘Take Money’ Chiwandire and Zulina Munoz of Mexico has been necessitated by irreconcilable scheduling clashes with some of our key stakeholders. After wide consultations, we have therefore resolved to move the date in order to accommodate all parties concerned. Meanwhile both the WBC and Zulina Munoz management have agreed with this new arrangement.”
Chiwandire has had her first sparring session against a South African boxer but Musonda said they will now have to scale down the intensity and instead concentrate more on ring-craft.
The pair is expected back in the country on August 20 and they will return to South Africa again for their final preparations for the bout.
But for now, Chiwandire will enjoy the South African game while refocusing especially on the changed training routine.
