SPORT consultant, Shepherd Chiware, has hailed the move by President Mugabe to have a stand-alone sport ministry. The President recently appointed Insiza North MP, Andrew Langa, as the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture. “The task is now on all of us in sport to advocate for reprioritasation and repositioning of our national sport from the grassroots — there in the villages, growth points and help the country become a symbol in the emerging new dispensation,” said Chiware.
“The President has done his part.
“Let us now help make Zimbabwe sport better, ensure it flowers to its full potential and help make this beautiful country is a better place to live in.
“The stand-alone ministry is a perfect timing, coming at a time when the emerging new dispensation worldwide is calling on the use of the power influence, authority and central values of sport for the purposes of good.
“Stand-alone ministry means we need to regenerate our plans, prioritise our strategies, rebrand our activities and relive the good old days when Zimbabwe was known for dominating at major sporting events — the likes of Proud Kilimanjaro in boxing, the golden girls hockey team.”
