A Chiweshe family of five is homeless after their home was destroyed by a fire on Thursday afternoon.
Mr Enock Chiocha of Chiocha village in Ward 5 under Chief Negomo confirmed the tragedy that has left his family devastated after losing property with an estimated value of US$3 000

“We are in anguish as a family because of this calamity that has visited us at a time when we are trying to make ends meet following an El Nino induced drought,” he said.

“The fire which started around midday consumed everything that we have worked for over the years.

“Everything was burnt to ashes, including generators, farm equipment, clothes, our grain reserves, food, and blankets.

“Important documents such as birth certificates and academic papers were also destroyed.”

He said the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

“We do not know how the fire started, we were only alerted that our house was on fire while we were at our store. By the time we got there, the whole house was on fire and we could not recover anything. There was no one at home when the fire started.”

Ward 5 Councillor Mr Edmore Mandaza is appealing for any form of aid that can provide relief to the family.

“It is indeed a difficult time for the Chiocha family. We are so touched by the incident and the pain and suffering it has caused the family,” he said.

“I am appealing to everyone who can offer a hand and contribute by any means to assist the family. Mr Chiocha is our comrade in arms as he is also our chairman for the Zanu PF district of Masiyazvengo here in Ward 5.”
