VETERAN CAPS United striker, Lot Chiwunga believes he is God’s chosen one.
Having gone through trials and tribulations throughout his football journey, he finds it a miracle that his career is still alive.
He believes that it is not by coincidence that he had to wait until the Easter weekend for him to finally find his feet and show his naysayers what he can still do on the pitch.
Chiwunga scored a brace in CAPS United’s 3-1 victory over Arenel Movers at Rufaro on Sunday and emerged the “Man of the Match”.
Midfielder Ralph Kawondera grabbed the third goal while Arenel Movers scored their first goal of the season through a Brian Jaravaza penalty.
Chiwunga had attended a two-hour church service before heading to camp.
In the match, he gave 75 percent complete passes, 13 touches inside the opposition box, four crosses, six take-ons, and also made five attempts.
In a brief conversation with Zimpapers Sports, Chiwunga broke down into tears.
“I prayed this morning asking God to show me if indeed I am in the right place; people talk and sometimes you find yourself believing what they say,” he said.
He recalled the roller-coaster of emotions he went through when he joined Makepekepe.
For many, the 37-year-old whose professional football journey has been marred by injuries may have had the experience required on the pitch but they felt he had outlived his days and was no longer worth the investment.
He revealed that at some point he felt that his critics were correct and psychologically he had given up.
“Emotionally I was a defeated man, my life has always revolved around football but when I joined Black Rhinos and became part of the sinking ship I got to a stage where I felt that my life as a player was done,” said Chiwunga.
