A Harare man has accused his wife, who is a member of the Mbare Chimurenga Choir, of infidelity while on tours, laziness and spending most of her time gossiping with friends.Fungai Nyamande, had brought husband Maxwell Mauto to court to secure a peace order to stop him from verbally abusing her and to get him to move out of the house she says is registered in her name.
However, Mauto alleged that it was Nyamande who was destabilising the home.
“She is my wife of 24 years and is in the Mbare Chimurenga Choir,” he said. “She leaves me with our children when she goes to musical galas. She weaned our last born child only at six months to enable her to attend musical shows and I accepted that.
“I cook food which I sell at a market in Mbare and that money sustains the whole family. I recently asked her to go and assist with farming in the rural areas, but she refused yet she spends her time in my house with choir members and doing nothing, but gossiping.
“She does not wash my clothes and I do that by myself and I suspect she is in a relationship with someone whom she has sex with while on tours with her band members.
“We last had sex nine months ago and I am the laughing stock in Mbare because members from a rival group tell me of what she does with other men at galas.”
In her application, Nyamande said she wanted Mauto out of their matrimonial home because their relationship had soured.
“I want him out of my house and I dumped him a while ago, but he does not want to accept that,” she said. “I am no longer interested in him and at one time his father pushed me to a stove that had boiling water and I am not in good books with his relatives.”
Magistrate Ms Rebecca Kavhiya ordered Mauto not to verbally abuse or harass Nyamande. She said the pair should divorce properly and share the property if the relationship was irreparable.
