THE Ministry of Health and Child Care has dismissed reports of three cholera cases in Zvishavane that circulated on social media.
Midlands Provincial Medical Director Dr Simon Nyadundu said reports, which circulated on social media early this month and alleged that three people were admitted at Zvishavane District Hospital, were unfounded.
“It is not true that there were three cases of cholera that were reported in Zvishavane Town. As the provincial office, we have looked into that and there were no cholera reports in Zvishavane.
“It is not true because we compile cases everyday and we haven’t come across that,” said Dr Nyadundu.
He noted that the province remains on high alert for the disease as evidenced by the setting up of district health monitoring teams in the eight districts of the province.
“We have no cases of cholera in Zvishavane and in the province as a whole, however, we remain on high alert following reports of the disease outbreak in other provinces,” said Dr Nyadundu.
Zvishavane Town Council recently clashed with Environment Management Agency (EMA) for allegedly disposing raw sewage into water bodies.
At the same time, there is a water crisis in the mining town, which has seen suburbs like Makusha and Mandava going for weeks without water.
