The win by Zanu-PF in the three by-elections held over the weekend has shown that Zimbabweans are confident in the ruling party and have realised that other political parties cannot deliver, Zanu-PF secretary for Administration Cde Ignatius Chombo has said.
In an interview, Cde Chombo commended party supporters who voted for Zanu-PF candidates in Epworth, Marondera Central and Mbire constituencies.
In Epworth, Cde Hazvineyi Zalerah Makari won with 10 509 votes, while in Marondera Central Cde Lawrence Lavious Katsiru emerged the winner with 8 978 votes.
In Mbire, Cde Douglas Karoro was declared the winner after amassing 11 635 votes.
“As a party we are extremely happy with the three victories we got during the weekend elections that is Epworth, Marondera and Mbire,” said Cde Chombo. “We want to commend our people who have stood with the party through thick and thin.
“This was quite a telling point for MDC-T. They have realised that they have been completely relegated to the back waters of politics. They are completely irrelevant to the situation on the ground. Everyone has realised that the MDC-T, its leadership and these start up parties are completely intellectually unsophisticated and cannot deliver anything for the people of Zimbabwe.”
Cde Chombo commended Zanu-PF national political commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere for working tirelessly to make sure that systems were in order and that voting took place peacefully.
Meanwhile, NetOne yesterday handed over to Zanu-PF a fountain erected at the ruling party’s headquarters which the firm funded for $46 000.
Speaking during the occasion, NetOne public relations manager Mr John Nyashanu said the gesture by his company was to recognise the role played by Zanu-PF in the liberation struggle.
“We urge the corporate sector to come and assist,” he said. “We cannot wait for the party to use its funds when we are all beneficiaries of the independence brought about by the liberation struggle.”
Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Cde Christopher Mushohwe, who is also the acting Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, hailed NetOne for its gesture.
“They have shown a good example,” he said.
“We hope other parastatals and companies will emulate. They should realise that without Zanu-PF they would not be enjoying the fruits of independence.”
Cde Chombo echoed the same sentiments and thanked NetOne for assisting not only Zanu-PF, but other charitable organisations as well as sponsoring sport.
The fountain was constructed by Zanu-PF provincial chairperson for Mashonaland East Cde Biggie Matiza’s company Studio Arts.
