Chombo rescues disabled elderly with wheelchair

Zanu PF Mashonaland West Women’s League secretary for the disabled and Local Government Deputy Minister Cde Marrian Chombo, who recently donated a wheelchair to an elderly woman with a disability, has urged people to emulate First Lady Amai Mnangagwa’s call for people to extend a helping hand.

Cde Chombo handed over the brand new wheelchair to Gogo Ngozo (75) from Rafingora in Zvimba North constituency where she is also a Member of Parliament.

The family of the vulnerable woman used to ferry her to and from the hospital and church in a wheelbarrow.

Cde Chombo said people ought to assist those with disabilities as a way of complementing efforts by the government, its social service delivery department and other concerned civic organisations.

“Our mother, Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa, teaches us to extend our helping hands to the needy,” she said while handing over the wheelchair. “We should always follow her noble gesture.”

Zanu PF District Coordinating Committee chair for Zvimba Cde Bywell Mbiri said the ruling party was concerned about the welfare of people with disabilities as backed by the availability of free grain and other assistance to them.

Family representative and daughter to Gogo Ngozo, Emilda, applauded Cde Chombo for the gesture, before thanking the government for Pfumvudza inputs that have seen the family becoming food secure.

Meanwhile, provincial social development officer, Mrs Agnes Mutowo, said delivery of grain which had temporarily been stopped will commence soon with a workshop on mapping this year’s deliveries already underway in Kadoma.
