THE Harare Civil Court has ordered a Harare man to pay US$80 per month for the maintenance of his one-year-six-month-old child.
Mr Tafadzwa Manjoro was ordered to pay the amount after his former partner, Ms Chipo Hwindisi, approached the court seeking US$150 per month for the upkeep of their child.
Ms Hwindisi told the court that she works in a hardware shop and earns US$70 per month.
She said Mr Manjoro is a mechanic who earns US$500 monthly.
“The child still needs nappies, food, medical bills, rent and clothes that I cannot provide alone,” she said.
Mr Manjoro offered to pay US$80 per month, saying that was what he could afford.
“I am not working currently,” he said.
He told the court that he is now being looked after by his other children.
“My children are the ones taking care of me, giving me US$50 monthly,” he said.
After hearing submissions from both parties, presiding magistrate Ms Janemary Makonye granted the maintenance application, ordering Mr Manjoro to pay the US$80 per month he had offered with effect from October 30, 2026.
