Government has barred Chitungwiza South legislator Cde Christopher Chigumba (Zanu-PF) and Cde Kalitso Masango from dealing with home-seekers in a disputed area of the town. Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo, his deputy Biggie Matiza, Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Miriam Chikukwa, Zanu-PF Harare chairperson Cde Amos Midzi, Metropolitan Provincial Administrator Mr Alfred Tome and acting secretary Colonel Joseph Mhakayakora last Thursday visited Chitungwiza to get first-hand information on land disputes in the town.
They met Chitungwiza mayor Mr George Makunde, Cde Chigumba and Cde Masango of Zanoremba Housing Co-operative. Deputy Minister Matiza was tasked to form a committee to address the challenges.
“For the time being, those paying subscriptions to Cde Chigumba should stop, those paying to Cde Masango should stop and those paying Chitungwiza Municipality should also stop.
“Corruption will not be tolerated in allocation of stands,” Dr Chombo said.
“The land in question is State land.
“It does not belong to Cde Chingumba or Cde Masango. The Urban Development Corporation will come and create stands and regularise those already built,” he explained.
