FORMER Warriors and Highlanders midfielder Richard Choruma and his associates will in the coming weeks embark on a massive rural talent identification exercise through holding football tournaments.
The tournaments, run through Dabuka Express BK Consultancy, will be held in Nkayi in Matabeleland North and Kombo in Matabeleland South on August 19 and from August 24-25 respectively.
“The Lutsha, Nkayi tournament will come on 19 August and includes eight non-professional teams from around the Nkayi community while the Kombo event will be held a week later and will also include eight teams,” said the United Kingdom-based Kevin Marley, one of the directors of the Consultancy firm.
Teams that will compete in Nkayi are Dinisa, Ozitho, Sunduza, Hluphile, Hawulesizwe, Nkathazo, Mdawini and Super Eagles while Green Swallows, Super Eagles, 12 Stars, Shining Stars, Rocking Stars, Bhada Stars, New Blood and Kombo 4 will make up the teams for the Kombo tournament.
“Besides having the best players being spotted for further development, the winning teams will get sets of kits, medals, trophy and runners up medals with the hope that the items will help the teams going forward. With this being our maiden tournament, more are scheduled to be held across the country, all with the aim of providing an opportunity to expose talent. We expect retired footballers and renowned football scouts to grace the two tournaments,” said Marley.
Dabuka Express BK Consultancy is an organisation that was formed after the realisation of the need to keep football alive by continuously exposing talent that will drive the growth and depth of the game.
“This is a collective effort of renowned sports people led by the great Choruma and others. The consultancy offers a variety of sporting consultative services that include training, scouting, career guidance and representation,” said Marley.
