NUTTY O’s younger brother, Nyasha “Chriss 99” Chiwadzwa, says his main goal is to create his own identity in the music industry.
As the youngest artist under the ABX camp, he described working with Nutty O as an important learning experience.
Chriss 99 credits his elder brother and mentor for helping him sharpen various aspects of his craft, including songwriting, vocal projection, branding, etiquette and understanding the business side of music.
“Working at ABX under the leadership of Nutty O is an invaluable opportunity that any determined and serious artist could wish for. Every interaction with Nutty O is highly treasured, it’s a continuous journey of learning.
“I’ve learned from him about songwriting, vocal projection, the music business, branding, and etiquette. Musically, Nutty defies the odds, he’s a jack of all trades and a master of all. Because of these lessons, experiences, and encounters with Nutty O, I’ve been panel-beating my craft and growing as a musician every day.”
Riding on the success of the collaboration “Pamunotiita Rough” where he was featured by Nice Killer and Nutty O, Chriss 99 said the song speaks directly to people who derive satisfaction from pulling others down.
Chriss 99 said he is committed to growing his career through hard work and talent.
The track, which was produced by Infinity Beats, has been generating positive reactions from fans across the country with its message resonating strongly with listeners.
“The song is addressed to all the vibe killers and haters, people who thrive on pulling others down. The message is clear and universal, because it applies to many life and societal settings.
“Pamunotiita Rough was a merger of three musical forces, that is Nice Killer, Nutty O, and myself, with Infinity Beats handling production. I’m really happy with this project.
“The song has been receiving positive responses that are both humbling and motivating. The feedback fuels my drive and zeal to keep making good music,” he said.
Chriss 99 believes his sound sets him apart.
He describes his music as a fusion of R&B, Afrobeats, Pop, Reggae and Afrodancehall.
“My sound is a fusion of diverse genres, that is R&B, Afrobeats, Pop, Reggae, and Afrodancehall. My style is one of a kind. My art, vocal projection, and lyrical stamina are yet to be matched.
“I’ve been working, and I’m still working. I have a lot of unreleased music.
“Right now, I’m polishing my brand and gearing up to release new music.
“It’s all about familiarising myself with the music terrain, understanding what the fans want, and striking accordingly.”
Chris 99 has been featured on one of Nutty O’s songs titled “Haisi Danger” off the latter’s extended play titled Cornerstone.
This is not the first time for Chris 99 to collaborate with his brother. In 2016, they had a duet titled “Tonight” which was produced at Kenako Muzik.
Chris 99, who started recording music in 2012 and has featured on several Zimdancehall riddims, said he was a versatile artist not fixed to any genre.
One of his successful tracks is titled 99 off Frosty riddim produced by DJ Tamuka.
