TWO hit-and-run accidents and a head-on collision have led Greystone Park residents to raise alarm and call for speed humps to be installed along Gaydon Road.
Police said the latest incident occurred on Tuesday.
Luckmore Shanda, 48, was driving a Toyota Corolla when he collided head-on with another vehicle at a curve. The other driver escaped with no injuries, while Shanda was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was admitted.
After the crash, police found some empty beer bottles in one of the vehicles. Greystone Park residents said the accident comes shortly after two separate hit-and-run incidents, as well as another collision reported along Harare Drive where motorists did not stop after the crashes.
One of the residents, Kudzai Msipa, told H-Metro that the community was now appealing for speed humps to help save lives.
“Gaydon Road has become a racing lane for motorists, leading to incidents where drivers allegedly do not stop,” Kudzai said.
“There is need for speed humps on this stretch of Gaydon Road.
“Besides these hit-and-run cases, motorists with latest-model vehicles have been speeding, risking other road users at various curves,” Kudzai said.
Residents said learners at Greystone Park Primary School and worshippers using the area face danger, and appealed to the City of Harare to install speed humps and warning signs.
