Christian league teams eager to end season in high spirits

ALL Christian Soccer League sides go into today’s final round of matches eager to get maximum points and end the season in high spirits.

Table toppers Sangano Revapostori will be hoping to be crowned champions for the second time in a row when they visit bottom placed House of Prayer at Famona.

Following a 2-1 victory over Mpopoma Nazarene last week, Sangano are leading the table with 46 points whereas House of Prayer are at the bottom of the table with eight points from 19 matches.

The closest challengers and the only team able to catch them, Flying Stars are second on the table with 43 points. They will, however, be praying that Sangano falter in their game while they win with a nine goal margin in order to clinch the title.

House of Prayer will be hoping to make up for their last week’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Crown of Glory and record their third win of the season.

One of the Christian league officials Fungai Mundofa said this year’s competition was more organised compared to the previous year.

“This is one of the seasons which I can say was well organised because all the teams managed to fulfil their fixtures.

“We also managed to meet our objectives as a Christian league which is to uplift youths spiritually through sports. Through the sport, we have managed to build strong relationships with other churches and we hope to continue doing so in future,” he said.

In the meantime, the battle for the top goal scorer accolade will be heating up with three players in contention.

Flying Stars’ Thabo Sibanda who has netted 16 goals is vying for the award with High Points’ Tinashe Komani and Shylock Ndlovu who have scored 15 and 14 goals respectively.

Today’s fixtures: House of Grace vs Word of Life Nkulumane (Bellevue), House of Prayer vs Sangano Revapostori (Famona), Grace Christian Church vs Flying Stars (Insukamini)
