CITY Centre Manyano, a Christian women’s group, yesterday donated clothes and groceries worth $400 to Edith Duly Nursing Home.
The group is a combination of Bulawayo City Centre church members for Brethren in Christ Church (BICC), African Methodist Episcopal Church, United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), Independent African Church and Evangelical Lutheran Church of Zimbabwe.

The donation included 100kg of mealie-meal, 40kg of sugar, tea bags, salt, petroleum jelly, toothpaste, bathing soap and cooking oil.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the nursing home, City Centre Manyano chairperson Mrs Josephine Ginya said the women were aware of the challenges faced by such homes and were prepared to assist the needy in the community.

“The Bible says blessed is the hand that gives than the one that receives, this is our way as women in Christ of giving back to the less privileged in our society,” said Mrs Ginya.

She thanked women in the group for their contributions.
Edith Duly Nursing Home administrator, Ms Leila Hunt, said the donation was a relief to the home as they depended on donations.
“The nursing home does not get funding from social welfare and we experienced a knock when one of our biggest international donor withdrew, so we are basically depending on donations. We are grateful for the clothes and groceries we received as they will go a long way in alleviating some of the challenges faced by the home,” said Ms Hunt.
