THE Chronicle, The Herald’s younger sister paper in Bulawayo, turned 100 yesterday, the first issue having hit the dusty streets of the town on October 12, 1894 as The Bulawayo Chronicle.
It changed its name to The Bulawayo Chronicle in 1896 and to The Chronicle in 1951. The Herald celebrated its centenary almost exactly two years ago.
Both dailies are owned by Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Limited and between them dominate the market for daily newspapers in Zimbabwe. – Herald Reporter.
LESSONS FOR TODAY
The Chronicle is one of the oldest newspapers in Africa. It has stood the test of time through credible and insightful reporting.
It turned 129 years yesterday and is destined to continue dominating the local media space together with its sister paper The Herald, which turned 131 years this month.
It is regarded as the foremost authoritative voice when it comes to news from the southern part of the country.
Consistency pays. The Chronicle has managed to stand the test of time because it has remained consistent and stuck to its editorial policies over the years.
