Sibanda won the Sustainable Livelihood Environmental Reporter of the Year.
She said it was a confidence booster to win an award while she is still learning the journalism ropes.

“It’s a great pleasure to have won this award. I hope this is the beginning of many other awards. l would like to thank my colleagues and editors for always pushing me and making sure that l do my best. If it had not been for them, I wouldn’t have gotten this award,” she said.

Sibanda encouraged other cub reporters to also work hard as they are their only limitations.
Sibanda expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the awards for shining spotlight on environmental issues at a time when the world is battling climate change.

“I commend the organisers Environment Africa and Rainbow Tourism Group for helping to fight climate change through motivating journalists to write environmental stories. My winning article focused on how Matobo women are making a living through taking advantage of their natural resources to beautify their homes while attracting tourists.

“They use mud and tree barks to paint and decorate their homes and have learnt the art of appreciating the environment around them,” said Sibanda.
