Sibanda won five awards — the Nust book prize, the Zimpapers floating trophy and the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) prize for being the best graduating student in Journalism and Media Studies department.

She also walked away with the Alpha Media Holdings prize for best graduating news writer and the business enabling Environment trophy for being the best economics reporter.

Both Chikiwa and Nsingo walked away with the ZMC prizes.

Ushe Edgar was honoured for being the best online journalist and walked away with a prize from the Centre for Innovation and Technology (CITE) while Stacy Nyathi got the Mighty Movies Floating Trophy for being the best broadcaster.

Angeline Ncube was also one of the outstanding journalism students and walked away with the Skyz Metro FM for the best radio broadcaster.

The six were among the 2 528 graduands capped by President Mnangagwa last Friday during a blended graduation ceremony.

Only those graduating with first class degrees attended the physical event at the university’s Ceremonial Hall while the rest of the graduands participated virtually through social media platforms and followed proceedings on ZBCtv.

Nust, like most academic institutions, conducted the blended ceremony in line with World Health Organisation guidelines and Government regulations to fight Covid-19.

Of the total capped, 1 139 or 45 percent were females and 1 389 were male. — @thamamoe
