Mhaka was nominated for the UNFPA Gender Based Violence Reporter of the Year Award.

The three are among 36 reporters drawn from different media organisations in the country who have also been nominated for their outstanding performances in the 18 categories.

Dube has been nominated for the third year running while it is the first time for Shumba and Mhaka.
Dube, an award winner scooped the Reporter of the Year in the Building and Construction category in 2011 and was runner-up for the Health Reporter of the Year last year.

In an interview yesterday, Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) secretary-general Foster Dongozi said preparations for the annual gala were at an advanced stage.

“This year’s event will take place on 11 October at the Cresta Hotel in Harare. Our theme is ‘Ubuntu/Unhu’ and we want to see how we can factor in our values as African journalists to our profession,” said Dongozi.

“This year’s edition will be unique in that everything will be traditional from the food, attire and the music.”
He said the guest of honour for the occasion was the president of the Federation of African Journalists.

“Our guest of honour will be the recently elected president of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) Malam Mohammed Garb. As for the prizes for the winners, I can guarantee we have a big surprise for them,” said Dongozi.
