Chronicle staffer Mpofu dies

He was 59.
His sister, Ms Edith Mpofu, said Mr Mpofu died on Saturday at Mater Dei Hospital after a short illness.
“We rushed him to hospital last week on Friday after he complained of severe headache and sore neck. His condition deteriorated while on the hospital bed and he passed on Saturday morning,” she said.
Ms Mpofu said the family was left heartbroken and devastated by her brother’s sudden death.
“I have lost my only brother and I do not know how I am going to manage without him. He was like a father and mother to me because we were the only surviving members of our immediate family,” she said.
“He was a pillar of strength and was the only person anyone could come to in times of problems.”
Mr Mpofu’s son Bright said: “I am saddened because we lost our mother last year and am now an orphan. He was a humble man and assisted me in a lot of things in life and even taught me not to look down upon people and to be loving.”
Another relative, Mr Morgan Ndlovu, said the family had lost a unifying figure.
“He was loved by people and wished to see the family move forward peacefully,” he said.
Chronicle human resources manager Mr Tinotenda Shumba said the company had lost a dedicated and hard working man.
“He was a hard working man. We transferred him to the canteen from despatch in 2009 where he was an operative and he never complained over his work.
“His death is a sad loss, he was working up until the day he went to the hospital when we noticed that his health was deteriorating,” said Mr Shumba.
Co-workers at Chronicle received the news of Mr Mpofu’s death with shock.
They described him as a dedicated man who executed his duties in the canteen diligently and without wasting anyone’s time.
Mr Mpofu was born on 17 August 1952 and did his primary education at St Paul in Lupane before proceeding to Malunga School for his secondary education.
He worked in Ilanda suburb, Bulawayo, before he secured a job at Chronicle, where he worked for 29 years.
Mourners are gathered at 5294 Nketa 9.
Burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
He is survived by eight children and nine grandchildren.
