FLOOD lights have been installed at the netball courts at White City Stadium in Bulawayo while laying of the turf on the main pitch has also been completed ahead of the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Games. The Games are set for next month.
The main concern though could be the stadium floodlights which are yet to be installed and with athletics set to be held in the evenings, the issue could be a cause for concern to the organisers.
It was previously reported that the budget for the main stadium floodlights had been drastically reduced, forcing the organisers to shelve plans to install them.
When a Chronicle news crew visited the stadium yesterday afternoon, workers were busy watering the lawn with road construction equipment hardening the track surface in preparation for the erection of the tartan track.
Workers at the stadium expressed confidence that they would be done by the time the Games roar into life on December 5.
At the netball courts, floodlights are already up with the old court, which underwent extensive renovations, having netball lines being drawn.
Meanwhile, the Games torch will today be taken to the Matabeleland South capital of Gwanda before going to Lupane on Friday on its final route before coming to rest in Bulawayo, the host city.
While in Bulawayo, the torch will be taken to the five districts, Bulawayo Central, Imbizo, Khami, Reigate and Mzilikazi as the count down continues.
Last Thursday the torch ceremony was held in Gweru with the provincial Minister of State Jason Machaya officiating.
