CHUNGA LOOKS DRESSED FOR THE ZIFA PRESIDENCY

Sports Reporter

THIS is what is called dressing for the occasion.

And, what about Moses Chunga for the ZIFA presidency?

Those who have been battling to get a former football star to head the troubled national football governing body will say YES.

However, there is also a group of those who oppose such characters and argue that being a good player doesn’t translate into being a good leader.

Chunga has never vied for the ZIFA presidency and will have seen how former Soccer Star of the Year James Takavada was humiliated when he tried to get the big job.

Takavada picked just two votes as he lost to Cuthbert Dube in the race for the ZIFA presidency.

At least, he will say he fared better than another former football star — Nigel Munyati.  Munyati is the brains behind the successful Aces Youth Soccer Academy which helped the likes of Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona realise their dreams as professional footballers.

However, when he tried to go for the ZIFA presidency he didn’t get even one of the 58 Councillors to vote for him.

Dube won that vote in 2013 and Munyati felt he was a victim of the corruption, which was rampant within the ZIFA Council, where votes were sold for cash.

Would Chunga fare any better?

Probably not!

It’s very likely that a big chunk of those who have been voting for the ZIFA leaders will still be around when the next round of votes are cast.

The ZIFA normalisation committee is expected to provide the stage when elections can be held this year and a substantial leadership is elected.

Chunga was in Belgium, as a player, as the time as Zambian legend Kalusha Bwalya.

Bwalya later became the president of the Football Association of Zambia and guided Chipolopolo to their finest hour by winning the 2012 AFCON.
